Scott Holtgrew's "Deerestroyer" Competes at Championship Tractor Pull-Silver Star Photography by Amber Shane, Atkinson NE Photographer

The National Farm Machinery Show at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky held February 16-19, 2011 holds the nationally recognized 43rd Annual Championship Tractor Pull.  It is an invitation-only event where the nations's best drivers compete in the oldest large-scale indoor pull in North America.  Local contestant Scott Holtgrew pulled "DEERESTROYER" in the 9300# Super Farm division.  His tractor is a John Deere 8530.  His Thursday night pull was awesome at 242.37' and ended him in 6th place!  Great job Scott and keep up the good work!

I was lucky enough to sit at the finish line and get some on the track shots!  I definitely need to grow a few inches, I either had to stand on my chair to see over the Full Pull Magazine and Pulloff.com guys or squeeze between them, the firemen and the "safety" rope!  Luckily Scott's division is quiet, but the trucks make a horendous noise and compression that literally made me shutter and brought tears to my eyes.  It made me feel like sitting 20 feet away was way too close!  Needless to say, I was glad to retreat to my seats in the stands.

The object is for drivers of these trucks and tractors to pull a weighted sled the farthest distance down a dirt track.  The weight in front of each category indicates the weight of the truck or tractor and not the weight they are pulling.  As the sled is pulled forward, weights on the back move toward the front and begin pushing the sled down into the dirt, making it increasingly harder to pull it.  Pulling the full distance of the track is considered a "Full Pull."  If more than one driver achieves a full pull, they pull again but with extra weight on the sled.  The driver who pulls the farthest wins.

Below is a list of the trucks and tractor divisions at the Championship Tractor Pull:
6,200# 2WD Super Modified & 7,500# 4WD Super Stock Diesel Trucks
10,200# Pro Stock Tractors
8,200# Super Stocks Tractors
7,500# Modified Tractors
9,300# Super Farm Tractors
6,400# Lightweight Super Stock Alcohol Tractors
8,000# Super Stock Alcohol Tractors

Investing in the history of your family-Atkinson, NE Photography

Photographers call the money spent on family portraits as an "investment".  I'd like to clarify that.  To me it is an investment in the HISTORY OF MY FAMILY.  I remember the oval portraits of my ancestors hanging on the basement walls at my Grandpa Kunc's house and when thinking about these, I thought of it as a great way to help people understand what we mean by an "investment".  Years down the road, loved ones will reminisce about family memories and be so appreciative of the money & care you put into preserving such special moments.

Investments don't need to be diamond engagement rings, rental property or farm ground.  If it were me, I'd want a picture of my family, wearing my grandmother's engagement ring, standing in a field of soybeans that has been in my family for 100 years!
